Trauma Therapy in Leeds

I offer trauma therapy in Leeds for adults who are living with the impact of childhood trauma, attachment wounds, emotional neglect, chronic stress or relational pain.

Trauma can affect far more than memory. It can shape the nervous system, self-worth, boundaries, relationships, emotional regulation and the way you move through everyday life.

You may feel anxious, burnt out, disconnected, overly responsible, hyper-independent, emotionally flooded or shut down. You may look capable on the outside but feel deeply exhausted within.

Trauma-informed therapy can help you gently make sense of these patterns, build safety in your body and relationships, and begin healing what has been carried for a long time.

What is trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps you understand and heal the emotional, relational and physiological impact of difficult or overwhelming experiences.

This may include childhood trauma, emotional neglect, attachment wounds, ongoing stress, painful relationships or experiences that left you feeling unsafe, unseen, powerless or alone.

Trauma is not only about what happened.

It is also about what your system had to do in order to survive.

Trauma-informed therapy recognises that many emotional and behavioural patterns developed as intelligent adaptations to earlier experiences.

Signs trauma may still be affecting you

Trauma can show up in many different ways.

You may recognise yourself in some of the following:

• anxiety, dread or hypervigilance
• chronic tension or difficulty relaxing
• people pleasing and fear of conflict
• perfectionism and harsh self-criticism
• burnout and emotional exhaustion
• emotional numbness or disconnection
• shame, guilt or feeling not good enough
• difficulties in relationships and boundaries
• feeling responsible for everyone else
• a strong need to stay in control
• overthinking and difficulty switching off

These patterns are often understandable responses developed earlier in life to help you cope and stay safe.

Childhood trauma, attachment wounds and the nervous system

Many adult patterns make sense when understood through the lens of childhood trauma and attachment.

If, as a child, you had to grow up too quickly, earn love through being good, stay small to avoid conflict, care for others before yourself or suppress your needs to feel safe, your nervous system may have adapted in ways that once protected you.

While these adaptations may have been necessary at the time, they can later leave you feeling depleted, anxious, disconnected or stuck in repeating patterns.

Trauma therapy helps you understand these adaptations with compassion rather than shame.

How I work

My approach to trauma therapy in Leeds is integrative, relational and trauma-informed.

Depending on your needs, I may draw on:

• psychotherapy and relational depth work
• hypnotherapy
• nervous system regulation
• inner child healing
• parts work
• psychoeducation informed by psychology and neuroscience
• grounding and stabilisation techniques

I work gently and collaboratively, with care for pacing, safety and consent.

The aim is not to force change, but to support your system in developing a greater sense of safety, understanding and emotional flexibility.

Who trauma therapy is for

Trauma therapy may be helpful if you:

• feel affected by childhood trauma or emotional neglect
• struggle with people pleasing, perfectionism or burnout
• feel overwhelmed in relationships
• notice repeating patterns that make life harder than it needs to be
• want a deeper, more holistic and trauma-informed form of support
